The role of local civil society in humanitarian crises

French version : Le rôle de la société civile locale dans les crises humanitaires

In recent years, international crises shed a light on the potential for mobilisation and action of local players in all their diversity. In its mission statement, Médecins du Monde is determined to act alongside civil societies to support social change.

How do local and global forces work together to rebuild and protect communities, and prevent humanitarian, social and economic crises, triggered by catastrophes? What happens when institutional forces are almost invisible and that local communities have to face catastrophes practically on their own? How can we enable citizens to get involved and help?

Speakers:

Véronique de Geoffroy, URD executive Director
Tin Tin Htar Myint, epidemiologist and former President of the Burmese Community of France
Alla Lazareva, deputy Chief Editor of The Ukrainian Week
Irina Maslovsakaïa, former general Coordinator of Médecins du Monde in Ukraine and Romania

The meeting is facilitated by three members of the Board: Sophie Alary, Mustapha Benslimane and Alexandre Kamarotos.
